What do you guys think of the new Clash Converse shoes? I heard they're coming out January/Spring 2010.

I think they look horrible. As I said in an earlier post, the Clash were never a sneakers band anyway (Yes, I know they wore them on occasions), and so therefore have little or no association with them. As far as I'm concerned, this sort of crass merchandising sullies the name of the greatest band ever and a true masterpiece of rock 'n' roll. I can see the appeal of a commemorative Converse baseball boot for the Ramones, Nirvana, Rancid, Green Day etc, but leave the Clash out of it.

a clash t-shirt i can understand, but sneakers?
i've seen a fair few clash inspired items in the past(clash-ins?), including a very good pair of leather shoes with a buckle(sort-of 50's inpsired), and even those sandinista-inspired "brixton" hats and jackets, which are also alright.

I've decided I'm not buying. I can't afford them anyways. Besides, I don't need to buy shoes with their name on it to show I like them. As long as I have The Clash with me throughout my life, who needs Converse shoes? I mean it's great that people are recognizing the band's achievements, but with sneakers? I mean really...

As a drummer I play in converse shoes anyway so I figure I might as well get a pair dedicated to my favourite band (probably the jacket flavour of the 3)

I think it's cool that there are the Clash converse, stop whining about that. Clash arent the band less commercial in the world, are you just afraid that they become fashion? It won't happen. So enjoy the shoes!

Marketing a "the Clash" Converse sneaker seems like the exact antithesis of what the Clash stood for.
