No offense lads but do you believe that Should I stay or should I go is pure punk?
Were the days of the "The Clash" PUNK album forgotten as the band grew older?

Had The Clash lost their punk profile during their last days?

Should I stay is a pure perfect pop song. It's got it all- Torn romance, edginess and those gorgeous vocals!Thats what matters-It may not be a hardcore as the likes of white riot but God bless the Clash for not being one trick ponies.
PS- we're not all lads!Posted 1 year ago # -
The Clash's punk profile was going before Give 'em enough Rope. As Gillian rightly says "Should I Stay..." is a perfect pop song and could have been written by any number of old school writers ie; Mick and Keith, Ray Davies or even the great Bo Diddley.
As for the days of "The Clash" being forgotten you only have to look at se lists from any of the tours after "White Riot" and yuo'll see a fairly generous helping of material from the eponymous debut album, especially from Clash Mk 2.Posted 1 year ago # -
yes! not only in their last days but isn´t that more "punk" to move on and try something new?!?!
fashion-wise they never reached the high of the first album again btw.
but that´s not the point.Posted 1 year ago # -
Chewlz, I thought they always looked great with the exception of Mick in the vid for "The Call-Up"

haha yeah XD but i just miss the leather and stuff (message shirts etc) as the years went on.
London Calling-era was great too...but,
well in my opinion joe´s mohawk was the third worst disaster the band had to face ^_^Posted 1 year ago # -
I try to forget that mohawk.

The Clash were as Punk from the start to the end. They just changed their sound as they got older and isnt Punk all about change?

Agree with clipper...sound changed but their political conviction and lyrics never did. These guys worked hard as hell for 5 to 6 years straight with barely any breaks, they played with passion and urgency, their music was inclusive and their lyrics dealt with social injustices everywhere. They cared and they left everyting on the table that's why they're my favorite band. The punk tag is meaningless to me...imo from 76 to 82 these guys made three great albums and two perfect albums. All you have to know is after the great critical acclaim and popularity of London Calling, they force CBS to issue a triple album mixing reggae, hip-hop, funk, rock etc. for the price of one and name it Sandinista.

I have been listening to a lot of the clash lately. I can remember being a young lad and thinking they were sell-outs because 'rock the casbah' was such a success.
I listen to Combat Rock now and it's message is so much more punk rock than anything I hear today, and at the time I considered it to be so commercial.
The world has shifted way to far to the right in the last twenty years.Posted 2 months ago # -
I don't ask myself those questions. I accept genuine creativity for what it is, no matter what form that expression takes. If I don't enjoy it, then I leave it. I don't particularly care for labels, but for strictly utilitarian purposes. I think it is a crime to try and pidgeon-hole everything into labeled groups. Its a divisive thing to do.
